Fabricate, assemble and install newly designed parts on prototype and experimental vehicles for concurrence with design engineering specifications. Assemble prototype vehicles completely using UG BOM and PC based drawings and other engineering direction.
Requires the ability to react quickly to changing requirements (changes to parts and materials) and pressures necessary to maximize the effectiveness (cost and time) of the program. Obtaining objectives requires the ability to communicate, working through and with others, to perform successfully in this position
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
May fabricate parts from detailed prints or layouts supplied by Design Engineering.
Assemble prototype vehicles and components using detailed layout drawings/verbal instructions.
Assemble, build, rebuild and modify experimental and/or prototype vehicles.
Modify and update components and parts by machine or hand.
Assist in instrumentation installation and vehicle preparation for component and/or vehicle compliance testing.
Rivet weld, machine, and assemble or reassemble parts and components. Install parts and components on vehicle.
Support testing and evaluate various parts or components.
Assist in training new mechanics.
Provide diagnostics for various automotive systems such as power train, cooling, fuel, electrical and HVAC systems.
Travel to support AM General activities may be needed from time to time.
Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION & SKILLS
High School diploma required. Training or experience equivalent to a master mechanic’s certificate. ASE Certification preferred.
Read blueprints, basic knowledge of mathematics, possess light fabrication capabilities and welding skills.
Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) desired, or willingness to obtain.
Basic PC skills

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls.
The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
The employee must occasionally lift and or move objects up to 50 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus
WORKING CONDITIONS
This job operates in a build shop environment, where hoists, cranes, floor jacks, jack stands, and other heavy equipment is used. Safety glasses, and appropriate footwear is required
