Overview:

The Quality Assurance Controller (QAC) is responsible for the collection of wheat seed samples and monitoring of the CHF Wheat Seed Program (WSP) based in Rovia District, Duhok Governorate in the Kurdish Region of Iraq (KRI). Based primarily at the Ganm Company wheat seed processing and treatment facility in Rovia District, the QAC will ensure that the process of receiving, sorting, treating, bagging and storage of up to 3,000MT of wheat seed, is carried out in accordance with the quality controls implemented by CHF. The QAC is the primary point of contact for CHF at the seed facility and is responsible for maintaining good relations and communication with Ganm Company’s facility staff and management. The role operates in a controlled and fluid environment that requires independent work with minimum oversight on a day-to-day basis. This position reports to the CHF SLS Chief of Party.

Responsibilities:

  1. Record details of each shipment of untreated wheat seed delivered to the Ganm Company Wheat Seed Sorting and Treatment Facility.
  2. Monitor the processing of the wheat seed through the sorting facility and treatment stages.
  3. Record details of the sterilization and treatment products used on each batch of seed treated.
  4. Ensure the varieties of seed treated are in accordance with the planned Cihan and Adana varieties and the correct Information Tags are securely attached to each 50Kg bag processed.
  5. Ensure each 50kg bag filled and tagged meets the required 50kg weight limit.
  6. Stacking of the bags in batches of 30MT with clear walk-ways to allow sample testing to be conducted in an efficient and auditable manner.
  7. Using tools provided, collect samples from each stacked batch and prepare the bagged samples for collection and shipment to the test laboratory by CHF.
  8. Provide all supporting documents for each sample batch prior to collection by CHF driver.
  9. On receipt of laboratory test results, the QAC will confirm whether or not the batch tested meets the requires stands:
    1. Where batches have passed quality testing, the QAC will stamp the Information Tags of each 50kg bag in that batch with a QA PASSED and Batch #.
    2. Where batches have failed quality testing, the QAC will remove the Information Tags for each 50kg bag in that batch. In addition, the QAC will apply red spray paint on each bag in accordance with the CHF quality assurance program.
  10. Using the shipping schedule prepared by CHF in conjunction with Ganm Company, QAC will be responsible to ensure only Wheat Seed stamped with the QA Passed and Batch # are loaded onto trucks for shipping.
  11. QAC will ensure all relevant documentation for each shipment is provided in accordance with the WSP guidelines.
  12. QAC will be responsible for the safekeeping all quality assurance and shipping documentation until such time as it is collected by CHF.
  13. QAC will undertake all other duties and tasks within his/her capacity and skill set as may be assigned from time to time.

Qualifications & Preferred Skills

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficient understanding of wheat seed sorting, grading, and treatment.
  • Excellent critical thinking skills, analytic skills, and sound judgment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills and high level of organization and attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal and self-management skills.
  • Fluency in English and Kurdish/Arabic, written and oral.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to take verbal instructions and understand critical/key points.
  • Self-motivated, mature, and extremely reliable person with a high work ethic.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, majoring in Plant Sciences preferred. Experience in wheat seed sampling is much preferred.
  • At least 3 years of practical agricultural work experience.
  • Previous experience of NGOs FSL activities is preferred, working with USAID funded programs is an advantage.
  • Previous experience self-managing programs with a high demand for data and recordkeeping accuracy.
