ABOUT HUMAN APPEAL:
Human Appeal (HA) is a British humanitarian, non-governmental and non-profit organisation that works in 25 countries around the world since 1991. Human Appeal has been operating in Iraq since 2016. Human Appeal Iraq’s country office is in Erbil with sub-offices in Mosul and Aana. Human Appeal is working in a number of thematic sectors: primarily in protection; shelter and non-food items; food security and livelihoods. Human Appeal’s main donors include UNHCR, UNOCHA, WFP and numerous other international institutional partners.
Job Purpose:
Based in Erbil, Field Assistant will be the main focal point for OSP and the incumbent will report to the Protection Coordinator. Field Assistant will be responsible for the implementation of OSP in Erbil as per HA OSP and Child Protection Policy and Vision, ensuring that the right orphans are identified and targeted for the sponsorship and ensure the timely payments (either in cash, bank accounts or through mobile transfers), ensure payment reconciliation on quarterly basis; submit narrative and annual progress reports and case studies on time, and ensure that issues regarding the OSP have been dealt with conforming to the agreed HA policy.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Implement OSP activities at field level including assessment of orphans and verification including bio-profiling under the direct supervision of the Protection Coordinator.
- Develop and maintain the bio-profiling of all orphans with complete information including documents required for the sponsorship both in hard copies by maintaining physical files, and soft using the electronic system.
- Develop orphans progress reports by visiting the individual orphan and making interviews with their guardians at least once in a quarter.
- Update the orphans’ data regularly by registering new orphans, changes in the orphans’ status including cancellation of sponsorship, absenteeism, or decline to receive the support.
- Prepare distribution plan including the orphan’s list, payment requests, and financial records of orphans including cash advances.
- Collect and maintain the proof of payments to orphans/ or their guardians in both hard and soft forms as advised by Protection Coordinator & Finance Manager.
- Develop donors progress report in English for the sponsored orphans on annual basis including but not limited to updating the orphan’s data and photographs, updates on the achievements of the orphan, child’s future ambitions, a drawing and a letter from the orphan as well as attaching and translating the orphan’s letter to the donor.
- Act as the focal point of contact to assist field mission from Erbil Office, HQ field mission, and donors in the selection and contact of orphans.
- To assist the CWM in the reporting and visibility of the OSP, contributing to the programme quarterly and annual progress reports and preparing case studies in cooperation with the orphan representatives responsible.
- To prepare personal weekly and monthly action and progress reports being submitted to the Protection Coordinator.
- Carry out and analyze need assessment of sponsored orphans, issues pertaining to sponsorship activities/payments and suggest changes in the programme implementation plans and strategies
- Escalating any issue related to the issues pertaining to child rights, abusing the sponsorship, and directly reporting these issues to the Protection Coordinator.
- Becoming the focal point for child protection and PSEA in the implementation and mainstreaming into organizations work.

Qualifications & Preferred Skills
Minimum Requirements:
Experience
– Minimum of two years of experience in child protection with INGOs/NGOs
– Previous experience working in similar sector is an advantage
Qualifications
– Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in social sciences or related field
– Good writing and reporting skills
– Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
– Proficiency in computer applications (MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
– Fluency in Kurdish and English language is required. Arabic language is a plus.
