IMPACT Initiatives is a humanitarian NGO based in Geneva, Switzerland. The organisation manages several initiatives, including the REACH Initiative. The IMPACT team comprises of specialists in data collection, information management, data analysis, and GIS. IMPACT was launched at the initiative of ACTED, an international NGO whose headquarters is based in Paris and is present in thirty countries. The two organizations have a strong complementarity formalized in a global partnership, enabling IMPACT to benefit from ACTED’s operational support on its fields of intervention.

Country profile
ACTED has been working in Iraq since 2003, providing humanitarian support to vulnerable populations through multi-sector emergency assistance. The REACH Initiative has been present in Iraq since 2012, supporting humanitarian decision-making with assessments and information management activities focusing on the needs of displaced, returnees, and conflict-affected populations. Today, data collected and disseminated by REACH aims to provide a baseline for ongoing response planning efforts across Iraq.
REACH assessment activities in Iraq are currently focussed along the three major themes:
- Support for decision-makers in the humanitarian planning cycle
- Information support and advocacy for durable solutions for internally displaced persons and returnees
- Third-party quality monitoring of humanitarian programmes
REACH has its main assessment office in Erbil, with data collection teams working across Iraq.
Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision and management of a member of the REACH Iraq Assessment team, and functional management by the Senior Management Team and Country Coordinator, the REACH Assessment Assistant will be responsible for supporting the coordination and implementation of assessments, including preparation, data collection, analysis and reporting. This includes:
1) Assessment preparation and planning:
- Support the IMPACT Assessment Officer to design and implement IMPACT assessment strategy and methodology;
- Support in research design, sampling, methodology and analysis plans;
- Support the Assessment Officer in working with field staff to design and implement IMPACT assessment procedures, including coordinating and ensuring timely data collection and analysis, and in partnership with GIS team;
- Support in keeping track of progress and delays of all assigned assessments throughout the research cycle. Ensure that delays or identified challenges for specific assessments are reported in writing and orally in a timely manner.
2) Data collection:
- Support in monitoring data collection, ensuring its correct implementation in line with agreed TORs, and conduct direct data collection;
- Support set up of logistics, financial, administration, security and HR processes directly related to data collection activities;
- In partnership with the GIS team, when relevant, supporting to ensure that collected data is geo-referenced enabling the production of maps and related products;
- Draft situation updates on data collection progress for submission to IMPACT Country Coordinator, and, where relevant, external partners and stakeholders.
3) Data management, cleaning and analysis:
- Support the Assessment Officer in ensuring that data is revised and cleaned, and that all revisions are recorded;
- Clean data received by field teams and ensure regular follow-up systems with field teams;
- Under supervision, conduct both quantitative and qualitative analysis of the data received, including through analysis software such as SPSS/STATA and Atlas TI/NVivo;
- Ensure that data and analysis do not contain personal information and support with ensuring data is validated by IMPACT HQ before sharing to external parties.
4) Product drafting, product dissemination and evaluation:
- Support in the drafting of timely and accurate assessment outputs on the basis of predetermined drafts (i.e. reports, factsheets, flash reports, etc.) which comply with IMPACT’s guidelines and quality standards;
- Communicate in advance with GIS colleagues on mapping needs for the production of assessment outputs;
- Support the Assessment Officer in ensuring that all written products are validated by IMPACT HQ before external release;
- Support in ensuring that lessons learned are gathered and documented throughout the life of the research cycle.

Qualifications & Preferred Skills
- Excellent academic qualifications, including ideally an advanced degree in a relevant discipline;
- Excellent analytical skills–ability to situate findings within a wider context;
- At least 1.5 years of relevant working experience in the humanitarian sector such as research, evaluation, assessments and programmes;
- Experience conducting data analysis;
- Experience conducting data collection, an asset;
- Understanding of the global and country level cluster approach, an asset;
- Fluency in English required;
- Ability to operate Microsoft Word and Excel;
- Ability to operate STATA, SPSS, R or related statistical programming, an asset;
- Ability to operate Adobe InDesign and Illustrator, an asset;
- Ability to operate Kobo, ODK or similar data collection software, an asset;
- A self-starter with a strong ability to work independently;
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
- Ability to operate in a cross-cultural and cross-country environment, requiring flexibility
