The Department of Aging and Adult Services (DAAS) is recruiting for Social Service Practitioners (SSPs) who provide professional social work services including diagnosis, assessment, intervention and case management support to aging and adult individuals with complex health, psychological or economic problems. Work requires investigating and/or supporting cases involving neglect, abuse, emotional or behavioral problems, physical/mental disabilities or other health conditions. Travel and field work, including home visits, are a routine part of these assignments.
INITIAL APPOINTMENT/ADVANCEMENT
DAAS offers a competitive salary and benefits package and rewards dedicated employees with long-term service commitment to the County. Social Service Practitioners are hired at the following levels and advance within the series based on experience as a Social Service Practitioner (or equivalent) and in accordance with criteria established in the Professional Unit Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) (Download PDF reader) (see page 68).
Social Service Practitioner II
S2: $57,553- $81,078 annually
Social Service Practitioner III
S4: $61,942- $86,236 annually
SPECIAL ASSIGNMENTS/FINANCIAL INCENTIVES
Candidates available for the following assignments are encouraged to apply and may receive additional compensation as specified in the MOU (Download PDF reader).
Bilingual Positions: Applicants fluent in American Sign Language, Arabic, Korean, Mandarin, Spanish and/or Vietnamese are strongly encouraged to apply. Additional compensation is associated with positions requiring the use of bilingual skills. Testing of bilingual skills may be required to receive additional compensation.
Standby or call-back duty: Make sure to indicate a willingness to work these alternate schedules on your application, such as Nights, Holidays and Weekends.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Travel: Incumbents travel throughout the County, and must possess and maintain a valid California Class C driver license and a clean driving record. Employees may be required to make provisions for transportation (mileage reimbursement is available).
Physical: Employees visit clients in their homes and other settings to complete risk and safety assessments. Incumbents must be able to visually assess allegations of abuse and the client’s environment as mandated by the State of California.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet one of the following options:
Option A: A Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW) from a school accredited by the Council of Social Work Education.
Option B: A Master’s degree in Human Services, Psychology, Counseling with an emphasis in gerontology, marriage, family, or child counseling, or a closely related field AND either 500 hours of supervised clinical internship OR one (1) year of casework experience equivalent to a Social Worker II in San Bernardino County.
Option C: A Bachelor’s degree in Social Work (BSW) from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education AND one (1) year of casework experience equivalent to a Social Worker II in San Bernardino County.
Option D: Bachelor’s degree in gerontology, behavioral science, psychology, sociology, social/human services, anthropology, cultural and gender studies, or human development AND two (2) years of casework experience equivalent to a Social Worker II in San Bernardino County.
Candidates in Final Year of Master’s Program: Applications will be accepted from candidates who are within 120 days of completing a qualifying degree provided they meet the minimum requirements for experience at time of application. Job offers may be made contingent upon degree completion; verification of qualifications will be required prior to hire.
Desired Qualifications
Social work experience related to the services provided within the Department of Aging and Adult Services is highly desirable.
