Wage: $18.00/hr.

Full Time: 35 hr./wk.

Temporary Term: July 5, 2021 – August 13, 2021

Job Summary

The Summer Youth Program Facilitator will plan, organize and facilitate a 5-week summer literacy program for immigrant youth ages 10 to 18 with varying language abilities in small groups. Topics may include, but are not limited to: English, literacy, math, life skills, goal setting and team building as well as a recreational component. This position works independently alongside a second Summer Youth Program Facilitator and volunteers, with support and training from Immigrant Youth Services Program Coordinator and Youth Workers.

Responsibilities

Prepare and design creative lessons and activities to engage participants in learning and recreation

Facilitate a 5-week literacy program

Assess the strengths and needs of program participants and adjust lessons and activities as needed

Ensure all client intake forms and attendance records are complete with information clearly and precisely documented and all agency confidentiality policies and guidelines are followed

Inform participants of the youth services available at Archway Community Services and in Abbotsford

Transport participants, as needed.

Requirements and Qualifications

Education and Certification

Completed secondary education

At least some post-secondary education (Teacher Education Program, B.Ed., Child and Youth Care, Social Work, or related)

Experience

At least 2 years’ experience in working with youth and/or people from diverse backgrounds.

Proven experience planning lessons and facilitating group sessions

Knowledge and Skill Set

Lesson and activity planning; able to adapt plans to meet group needs

Strong group facilitation skills

Able to engage and form relationships with youth

Able to communicate effectively with youth who are not fluent in English and are from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds

Excellent organizational and time management skills, accurate record keeping

Able to work independently and as part of a team

Strong computer and internet skills

Valid Class 5 Driver’s License

Ability to speak, read, and write in a language other than English (especially Punjabi or Arabic) is an asset

WORKING CONDITIONS

Willingness to work in a classroom with approximately six students as well as volunteers in compliance with government regulations and agency health and safety policies regarding COVID-19.

This position includes driving clients to their home on occasions in compliance with government regulations and agency health and safety policies regarding COVID-19.
