Overall job purposes

The WASH technical monitor performs all of his/her professional activities on the WASH project being implemented. S/he is responsible for the implementation of the technical activities, the development and management of the technical assistant. In terms of technical support, s/he has a major responsibility for the project strategies, steering and outcomes.

Main responsibilities:

 

  • Carry out assessment to identify context based appropriate WASH technologies for the community people.
  • Carry out assessment for construction and/or rehabilitation of infrastructures as per programme/organization needs and collaborate with logistic department.
  • Facilitate to develop understanding and agreement with beneficiaries about use, operation and maintenance of WASH interventions.
  • Ensure that action is taken to mitigate priority WASH related risks.
  • Supervise and orient to the contractors on design and bill of quantities, and ensure the building techniques.
  • Perform water quality testing in order to supply safe drinking water for the people
  • Monitor safe WASH practices, including appropriate use and maintenance of WASH facilities and services.
  • Monitor appropriate community involvement in the design and delivery of essential WASH services and facilities.
  • Prepare monthly work plans and review this fortnightly through consultation with the line manager.
  • Identify and analyses the beneficiaries’ needs in collaboration with community representatives and site managers.
  • Maintain liaison with the local government officials, other I/NGO’s and community based organization’s (CBO) at the community level to ensure their cooperation and coordination for effective implementation of the Program in the areas.

Qualifications & Preferred Skills

  • Bachelor in WASH related studies (civil engineering, mechanical engineering, Water and Dams, construction management, etc.) or other relevant training
  • Minimum of 2 years’ working experience related project implementation with NGO or INGO.
  • Fluency in Arabic is essential. Spoken and written English is required, knowledge of other local languages is desired.
  • Have the qualities to make a good community approach
  • Able to work in unstable, uncertain or potentially dangerous environments, independently and in a team.
  • Strong cross-cultural communication and resilience skills.
  • Able to establish and maintain effective working relations with people of different cultural backgrounds.
  • Computer knowledge of MS Office Word and Excel, AutoCAd is a must.
