Right To Play’s Global Program Development Unit is looking for an illustrator to design a recently

developed Play And Care Together (PACT) Resource Package – a Psychosocial Peer Support Program

for children in Emergencies. Art Direction can be obtained upon request.. BACKGROUND

Under the Child Protection area of responsibility, a focus area for Right To Play (RTP) is preventing and

responding to children’s psychosocial needs both in development and emergency settings. We design

interventions and resources to support children psychosocial wellbeing through training teachers,

caregivers, community volunteers and non-specialised staff as well as children themselves on play-

based methods to their PSS resilience and provide Psychosocial Support.

In this regard, a resource needs gap analysis conducted by the Global Program Development Unit

informed the development of the Psychosocial Peer Support Program Resource Package to train Peer

Supporters (ages 10-17) and non-specialised personnel such as teachers and coaches to support

children in emergencies.

The PACT is a structured, child centred play-based resource to promote psychosocial wellbeing among

children affected by adversity. The program develops children’s knowledge and then applies children

and young people acquired skills and experience to support and help develop socio-emotional skills of

other children through play.. OVERALL OBJECTIVE OF THE CONSULTANCY

Through consultation with RTP Project staff undertaking designing, formatting, and creating

illustrations of four products (190 pages) of the PACT Resource including:. PACT Trainer Manual II for Adult Supporters (125 pages). PACT Games Manual for child Peer Supporters (52 pages). Peer Support Toolbox (9 pages). Wellbeing Journal for child participants (5 pages). Guidance Note for Implementing Organisations (21 pages). OVERALL TASKS

The selected designer/illustrator to develop and design the desired final product for each target

users of the PACT training package to be formatted in both English and Arabic Version.

This means following the 2019 RTP Brand Guidelines to

  • Create [six-ten] child friendly and universal/culturally sensitive icons in (black colour) for

cross cutting themes to guide the reader. Examples: adaptation for children with

disability, gender sensitivity, protection, group work, individual work, type of play, mindful

minute, take home, break, warm up

  • Create an estimated total of [26] child friendly and universal/culturally sensitive icons for

specific activities, including 9 reward badges/stickers.

  • Recreate 70 full colour and bespoke child friendly diagrams/images for the

games, including a mixture of animals, characters and role play scenes, natural scenery. The

aim of the game illustrations is to communicate with the end user how to set up/play the

game, as much as this is possible (not simply to accompany the game as a decorative item).

o Estimated 8 (eight) diagrams

o Estimated 62 (sixty-two) game images

o The colour palette used for the illustrations should match RTPs brand and design as much as

it is possible.

o QR codes inserted in printed versions.

o RTP have ownership to all tailored ILLUSTRATIONS

NB! The designer is responsible for making sure we are allowed to use any external

images/icons that they choose to use in the manual, and we are not infringing on any property

rights.

o RTP recommends the designer to use free library resource icons such as the Noun Project

or other platforms that allow procurement of open

Reusable product format: A4 format, the design should be ideal for self-printing or professional

printing.

Audience: Trained adult supporter including social workers, teachers, health personnel, or

community volunteers working with children ages 10-17+

Design Illustrations for icons, reward badges and activities.

  • The game illustrations to communicate with the end-user on how to set up/play the game as

much as possible (not simply to accompany the game as a decorative item).

  • Create cover (photos to be provided by RTP if needed)
  • Combine front matter, sessions, bibliography, and appendices into one file
  • Design layout for front matter, bibliography, and appendices
  • Design a layout for each section
  • Insert all icons/diagrams/images into correct pages.2 PACT Games Manual for child peer supporters (52 pages) – For child Peer Supporters to co-lead

group sessions for other children.

Reusable product format: A4 format, the design should be ideal for self-printing or professional

printing.

Audience: Youth ages 10-17 + adults

  • Create cover (photos to be provided by RTP if needed)
  • Design layout for front matter (acknowledgements, table of contents, short

welcome message

  • Design a youth friendly layout for each section
  • In consultation with RTP, map and designer elements that need to be formatted

differently to stand out

  • Insert all icons/diagrams/images into correct pages.3 Peer Support Toolbox (approx. 9 pages) – directed for children to record learning, as well as a

source of verification for monitoring and evaluation of outcome.

Reusable product format:

  • A fold-out/accordion style A5 or square format with print on both sides that can be extended.
  • Have a high-resolution PDF design would enable self-printing or professional printing.

Audience: boys and girls ages 10-17

Illustrations for icons, reward badges and activities:

  • Create full-colour, child-friendly diagrams/images, including a mixture of animals, characters

and role play scenes, natural scenery suitable for children ages 10-17.

  • Elements:
  • Create illustration cover
  • Do layout for inside cover
  • Simple table of contents: Session names + start of Activity Book
  • Create space for notes/drawings as noted in comments
  • Format pages in style that is appealing to youth and supports comprehension.4 My Wellbeing Journal (5 pages) – directed for child participants to record learning.

Reusable product format:

  • A fold-out/accordion style A5 or square format with print on both sides that can be extended.
  • Have a high-resolution PDF design would enable self-printing or professional printing.

Audience: Girls and boys ages 8-17

Illustrations for icons, reward badges and activities:

  • Create full-colour, child-friendly diagrams/images, including a mixture of animals, characters

and role play scenes, natural scenery suitable for children ages 8-17.

Elements:

  • Create cover illustration
  • Format pages in style that is appealing to children and youth and supports comprehension.5 Guidance Note for Implementing Organisations (21 pages)

Reusable product format: A4 format accompanying information guide, the design should be ideal for

self-printing or professional printing.

Audience: Staff of non-governmental organisations, community-based organisations etc. who are

using the PACT resource to implement a psychosocial peer support program.

  • Insert all icons/diagrams/images into correct pages as needed. DELIVERABLES. Conduct consultative meetings with relevant RTP stakeholders, including selected Right To

Play Country teams. Develop a draft design for required illustrations in graphics and share it with the team at Right

To Play for Approval.. Finalise and submit fully designed products.. TIME FRAME

  • The estimated time for the completion of the work is to be specified by the consultant.
  • The consultant will follow the agreed-upon work plan.
  • Illustrations and design must be completed by 10 December 2021.

NB! Cost extension does not apply to this Project.. CONSIDERATIONS

  • Creativity: All materials must be creatively done with the highest artistic quality. Designer

must be willing to change designs based on feedbacks from the SBCC team even if it means

more than three and four times.

  • Comprehension: The materials should be clearly understandable by the target population.
  • Appropriateness: All creative works must be appealing and respectful to the heterogeneous

cultures, gender sensitive, and considerate of targets with diverse backgrounds in different

geographic settings.. ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Advanced degree in design or fine arts from a reputable university.
  • Excellent English skills and working knowledge of written and oral Arabic
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in design and illustration for children and young people
  • High orientation to detail
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in the English language
