Opportunity Background

Background

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development; human rights; as well as humanitarian action and peace and security. Placing women’s rights at the center of all its efforts, UN Women leads and coordinates United Nations system efforts to ensure that commitments on gender equality and gender mainstreaming translate into action throughout the world. It provides strong and coherent leadership in support of Member States’ priorities and efforts, building effective partnerships with civil society and other relevant actors.

A gender sensitive approach recognizes that because of the different jobs women and men do, their different societal roles, the expectations, and responsibilities they have, women and men may be exposed to different physical and psychological risks at the workplace, thus requiring differing control measures.

This approach also improves the understanding that the sexual division of labour, biological differences, employment patterns, social roles and social structures all contribute to gender-specific patterns of occupational hazards and risks.

Workplace violence, harassment or discrimination, whether based on sex, age, disability, religion or belief, racial or ethnic origin and sexual orientation may affect the safety and health of workers, and therefore have negative consequences for those affected, their families, their co-workers, their organisations, and society at large. It can also lead to situations of labour exploitation.

The proposed interventions will strengthen capacities of local companies to apply gender sensitive occupational Safety and Health policies and practices in their workplace and will be provided with improvement and capacity building plans.

In this direction and in order to acomplish above, UN Women Project Office in Kosovo is seeking to hire an experienced licenced company to provide services described in this notice.
