Background:

SWEDO is a Swedish non-profit, non-political, non-religious development aid organization that was founded in 1991 in Stockholm, Sweden. Having continuously operated in the Kurdistan Region ever since, SWEDO’s main priorities of work are construction and infrastructure activities, refugee and IDP initiatives, health, water, sanitation and hygiene, and capacity building.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Visual Communications Officer will report to Head of Office and will work on SWEDO’s various communication and visibility needs within the whole Dohuk office. The visual communications officer will be responsible for creating visibility products including but not limited to, media-related products including print, digital, and online, creating short video clips, creating information leaflets, posters, banners, information cards, managing a social media platform, photography, and supporting the creation of the SWEDO newsletter.

The Visual Communications Officer will support SWEDO Dohuk teams by providing social media and website support, designing a dynamic communications and visibility strategy, with support of the Head of Office, and Communications Manager.

The Visual Communications Officer will work within the Reporting and Communications unit, and closely with other Dohuk field office members, while coordinating with other relevant partners and community networks for communications related matters.

The Communications officer in Dohuk field office will lead on the organization’s PR and social media in Iraq, and will work with focal points from each field office according to the organization’s communications structure, overseeing their inputs and requesting contents when needed.

 

 

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Designing and producing visibility materials for a wide and varied audience in required language
  • Identify and fulfill the visibility requirements for Dohuk field facilities;
  • Lead the organization’s PR and social media in Iraq according to SWEDO’s communications structure.
  • Request/review/publish the social media inputs from the focal points of the other field offices.
  • Creating and maintaining a high-quality photo gallery, as well as creating short videos to promote SWEDO’s work and mission.
  • Develop and conduct Communications trainings for staff and volunteers
  • Coordinate and collaborate with project managers, coordinators, team-leaders and officers internally, as well as partners externally
  • Contribute on creating online content and managing most effective social media pages as per the culture of society, through writing stories highlighting SWEDO’s activities, accomplishments and impact
  • Support in the design of SWEDO reports and periodic dashboards
  • Follow SWEDO’s (and its partners) visibility guidelines and regulations, while also ensuring other SWEDO staff follow these regulations
  • Identify new communications platforms and ideas
  • Collaborate with M&E team on identifying and fulfilling gaps in visibility

Any other related duties as requested by the office

Qualifications & Preferred Skills

Required qualification & skills:

  • Bachelor Degree in Communication, Marketing, Advertising or Project Management;
  • At least three years’ experience from an NGO or in a similar position or field;
  • Fluency in English, Kurdish and Arabic languages;
  • Excellent skills in the development of mass communications materials such as leaflets, photography, and audio/video productions;
  • Previous experience in graphic design, media production or other communications-related fields.
  • Ability to produce, shoot, edit, short videos for internet use
  • Excellent knowledge and use of social media
  • High level of self-motivation, initiative, and creativity
  • Proven experience in using Photoshop, Illustrator, Final Cut, Adobe Suite (or other alternative design software)
  • Time management skills and effective problem-solving skills required.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with an ability to work with both community members as well as local authorities in a sensitive and respectful manner, and ensuring that all community members are represented.
  • Willingness to work in all areas of Dohuk Governorate.
  • Must be willing to work within an ethnically or religiously diverse group.
