Key Dimensions of the role

The Communications Specialist is responsible for designing and implementing SAFER Project’s communications and outreach strategies, managing report production, and ensuring compliance with the project’s Branding and Marking Plan. This may include, but is not limited to the following:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Draft documents and reports, such as weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports, drawing on inputs from SAFER staff members. Finalize documents and reports after receiving input from Blumont HQ team and others as appropriate.
  • Review, edit, and format documents produced by the program including, but not limited to regular progress reports, technical reports, training modules, briefing notes and PowerPoint presentations, success stories etc.
  • Provide quality control over writing, editing, formatting, graphic content, and translation for formal documents produced by SAFER project.
  • Advise and mentor staff across SAFER project to improve the quality of source material they prepare. Assist, enable and train staff to produce accurate, clear, and concise written products, to produce material that complies with USAID and Blumont standards.
  • Assure that all formal documents attain a high professional standard of quality, accuracy, and appearance, including compliance with USAID and/or Blumont branding and marking standards if applicable.
  • Create and disseminate appropriate communication products in consultation with HQ Communication team via relevant channels, including traditional and social media, events, printed materials and video.
  • Leverage a mix of informational sources and research methods, working closely with the M&E Manager to (i) analyze project progress towards goals and learning objectives, (ii) communicate those findings externally (e.g. to donor, external partners) and internally (e.g. to project staff), and (iii) apply that learning into improved work-planning and project activities.
  • Write and package success stories for internal and external publications
  • Ensure consistent and coherent editorial support across all Project’s outputs, including media outreach, audiovisual material, publications, reports, documents, and presentations
  • With the Program Director, develop weekly bullets and monthly reports summarizing activity progress, challenges, successes, and learning.

 

QUALIFICATIONS,EXPERIENCE and SKILLS

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (communications, social sciences, international development) and at least 5 years of relevant professional experience in writing, editing and/or document production.
  • Prior experience working on donor-funded projects, preferably with USAID
  • Excellent English language proficiency, including report writing skills
  • Strong creative and analytical skills and good strategic judgment
  • Demonstrated leadership and ability to work closely with peers
  • Ability to remain organized and focused on long-term vision and strategy
  • Strong understanding of media planning and experience working on digital communications
  • Excellent Word, Excel and PowerPoint skills. Experience in Google platforms and other virtual working platforms is an added quality

Desirable:

  • Able to travel to other offices in North East Syria
  • Knowledge of Arabic is preferred
