Brief description of HIH:

Hand in Hand for Aid and Development (HIHFAD), previously operating as Hand in Hand for Syria, was established as a UK registered charity soon after the start of the Syrian crisis in 2011 by a group of British Syrians in order to deliver humanitarian assistance to civilians impacted by the conflict in Syria. From humble beginnings the charity has grown to become one of the leading humanitarian actors serving Syrian communities both inside Syria and in neighbouring countries, employing over 1000 staff in Syria, Turkey and the UK. As the organization grows, it now handles multiple institutional donors such as UN, ECHO, International NGOs and bilateral governmental agencies.


Purpose of the position:

The Education Project officer ensures a quality level of educational activities, including the definition of the activities, the training of the volunteers and staff, as well as the evaluation and monitoring of the program.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the proper implementation of the project’s objectives and work plan according to the approved project description,
  • Ensure the compliance of educational activities with International Standards for Education in Emergencies,
  • Assess the educational needs of beneficiaries taking into consideration their age, gender, level of education,
  • When required, plan and schedule distribution of educational kits,
  • Representing the organization, when necessary, in coordination meetings with other agencies when it is related to Education,
  • Preparing all project related reports in accordance with the agreed project description, timeframe, objectives, and other related matters,
  • Ensure correct data collection and data entry,
  • Preparing weekly and monthly reports for the Program S. officer as required,
  • Coordinate with other departments as needed to ensure the availability of project needs according to the objectives, needs and available funds of the project,
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

    Orphans Center Supervision:

  • Providing the center monthly needs and providing all required documentation paper forms to cover these expenses such as financial bills and other forms in cooperation with finance department and according to the direct manager instructions.
  • Preparing monthly list of the centres residents and sharing it with the finance department on monthly basis to coordinate the coverage of the monthly sponsorships designated for them according to the direct manager instructions.
  • Updating the data of the centres residents periodically such as communication numbers, photos and other official papers to document the status of the residents in updated and accurate way to be shared with the direct manager who in turn will review ,update and share these information with donors.
  • Archiving all the papers and official documents of centres accurately to be easy to be followed and shared with donors when needed.
  • Following up problem solving including all types of technical and personal problems and setting solutions for each case in cooperation with the direct manager in addition to preparing reports about these problems which face the work of centres according to the direct manager instructions.
  • Following up the educational status of children in the centres and to ensure registering then in schools according to their age categories.
  • To provide transportation the transportation which the residents of centres such as school buses and other forms of transportation according to the needs.
  • Following up the children status at schools and ensuring good educational status for children in addition to following up all aspects of their social life.
  • Providing the medical care needs for the centres residents such as hospital visits and providing the medication needs for them.
  • Holding periodical meetings at centers with mothers, direct them and discussing their conditions and needs to develop the technical conditions of the centres in cooperation with the direct manager.
  • Providing awareness sessions for the centres residents in accordance with gender and ages to maintain the social cohesion at centres directing them through providing proper awareness.
  • Managing the in-kind donations distribution process for centres according to the residents needs in accordance with age and gender.
  • To ensure that all the residents of centres are committed to the communal accommodation standards and to the organization social and moral standards in addition to the conformance of their behaviours with the hosting community education.
  • Representing the centers runs by the organization work in orphans centres meetings periodically and preparing reports for the direct manager.

Knowledge and Qualifications:

  • University degree in Education, Social Work, Community Development, or any other related field.
  • 3+ year of relevant work experience in related field.
  • Previous experience working for NGOs is preferred.
  • Proposal writing skills.
  • Knowledge of humanitarian standards and codes, including SPHERE is preferred.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong Computer Skills.
  • Fluency in English and Arabic is required, Turkish is an asset
