Background

Reach Alternatives (REALs, former JCCP: https://reals.org/en) is an international NGO with its headquarters in Tokyo, Japan. In Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, and the Middle East, REALs runs a wide variety of field projects, ranging from community security and safety, research and training in peace and security, protection of war-affected population, prevention of and response to gender-based violence, livelihood, to peacebuilding programmed with a strong focus on capacity-building.


The organization has been active in Turkey since 2015 and supported Syrian and Iraqi refugees and the host community people in needs. The representative office of the organization, Japan Center for Conflict Prevention Turkey (JCCP Turkey), has been registered in Turkey in 2019, which is located in Istanbul. Our priority areas of work in Turkey in recent years are: Gender, Social Cohesion, youth empowerment, and self-reliance of Syrian and other refugees through provision of gender-responsive protection support.

This time, in collaboration with UN Women, REALs will provide training to 10 women-led CSOs, community-based and grassroots organizations, and women´s groups working for refugee and host community women in Turkey for implementing the capacity development programmes in the field of gender-responsive protection, prevention of and response to violence against women and girls and peacebuilding as well as gender-sensitive disaster risk reduction.

General Information

Work Description: Conduct need assessment, develop training materials on Ending Violence Against Women and Girls (EVAW) and facilitate the training.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Conduct Need Assessment to the representatives of 10 CSOs

● Develop Focal Group Discussion (FGD) templates on the capacity and training needs of CSOs on the subject of Violence Against Women and Girls.

● Facilitate online need assessment sessions to 10 CSOs in order to design training curriculum under REALs’ supervision.

Develop training curriculum and materials

● Develop curriculum and relevant materials for training in English (and in Turkish/Arabic depending on the needs). Thematic areas include but not limited to; Causes of Violence against Women and Girls (VAWG), International and National Legal Framework, Prevention of VAWG, Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA), National, Local Coordination Mechanisms of VAWG, and EVAW in disaster settings and Gender Sensitive Disaster Risk Reduction.

Delivery the training on gender

● Facilitate the training to CSOs. Total 70-80 participants will receive the training. Duration of the entire training for each round is estimated to take for 5 days.

● Conduct pre and post training test to the participants in order to measure trainees’ level of understanding on the subject.

Perform other functions as deemed essential for effective results.

1 Focus Group Discussion (FGD) templates on the capacity and training needs of CSOs

2 Facilitation of need assessment

3 Training curriculum indicating thematic areas, modules and timelines for 5-day training

4 Training PPT slides materials in English and Arabic on the identified thematic areas, and Pre and Post training test questionnaires in English and Arabic.

5 Facilitation of 5-day training 2 times

Education

● Minimum Master’s degree in Gender studies, Social science, law, human rights or related field of study.

Experience

Required:

● Eight (8) years of increasingly responsible professional experience in the substantive area.

● Extensive experience in conducting need assessment, training material development and training facilitation.

● Extensive experience in response to Syrian refugee crises and assistance activities.

● Substantial experience in designing, monitoring and evaluation of gender projects.

Preferred:

● Work experience with other international organizations, NGOs and/or governmental development agencies.

● Multi-cultural environment working experience.

Knowledge, skills and languages

● Strong knowledge on Turkish/Syrian cultural, legal and societal context on gender / GBV related matter.

● Strong written and oral communication skills.

● Well-organized, accuracy and fine attention to detail.

● Excellent interpersonal skills and a team player.

● Fluently spoken and written English and Arabic.
