As a member of the Legal Policy Operations (LPO), you will be integral in ensuring that TikTok is a safe and trustworthy place for our community. LPO is responsible for balancing corporate compliance responsibilities with the appropriate operational safeguards to protect our users’ intellectual property, privacy, and wellbeing rights. Within and across each vertical, we work together to develop efficient workflows that mitigate legal risk. Our team is a group of specialists covering Privacy, Intellectual Property & Identity, Law Enforcement Response, and Legal Investigations.
The Legal Investigations Team analyzes trends in criminal behavior, legal abuses and user safety and which can result in referring matters to law enforcement or working cross-functionally to improve the safety program, protecting it from bad actors. We pride ourselves in helping prevent online and real-world harm by quickly identifying and escalating sources of abusive and illegal behavior. The team looks across all issues areas but mainly focuses on violent content and minor safety. The team is looking for detail-oriented, motivated candidates with a passion for online safety and excellent critical thinking skills. Successful candidates will have the ability to operate independently in a fast-paced, small but growing environment, and work proactively with various teams across the globe.
This position will be full-time and will be based in our Los Angeles, CA location.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Review sensitive content issues, including but not limited to graphic images, videos and writings, offensive or derogatory language, child safety, and other potentially objectionable material.
- Be responsible for handling sensitive information in a manner complying with our Terms of Service, applicable laws and regulations, and internal SOPs while protecting user privacy.
- Investigate high-risk behavior on the platform to determine proper escalation and resolution.
- Summarize findings, generate reports, and escalate imminent threats – analytic judgements relying on a combination of internal and external quantitative and qualitative data.
- Quickly and accurately assess the credibility of potential threats in an effort to prevent online and real-world harm
- Identify risk patterns and link abusive behavior through data analysis and investigative standards.
- Work cross-functionally with internal teams on investigations, escalations, and incident response.
- Identify process and policy improvements and make progressive suggestions for change
- Monitor ongoing current affairs and abusive trends to develop proactive measures to keep user’s safe
- Be responsible for handling escalations both reactive and proactive.
- Work directly with law enforcement on requests and outreach as needed
REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
- 3+ years of investigations or analysis experience in law enforcement, security, risk, or safety fields.
- Experience working in crisis management and response
- Analytical and investigative skills combined with experience assessing large amounts of data in order to detect critical and credible information
- Experience working with sensitive issues that includes graphic violence and adult content
- Experience working independently under high pressure and making decisions with limited supervision
- Experience protecting highly confidential information
- Strong attention to detail, highly self‑driven and results oriented.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Investigations experience focused on violent extremism or child safety
- Experience working with international partners in different time zones
- Experience in law or policy within the Internet industry
- Fluent in Spanish, Arabic, French
