  1. Overview

 

1.1. Background

War Child UK (WCUK) works with children who, as a result of conflict, live with a combination of poverty, exclusion and insecurity. These children might include street children, child-headed households, children associated with armed groups, and children who have been put in prison.  Our mission is to support and strengthen the protective environment around all the children we serve.  We look forward to a world in which the lives of children are no longer torn apart by war.  This is a vision that can only be realized through the collective actions of children themselves, communities and their leaders, other NGOs, governments and key decision makers.

 

1.2. Purpose of the Role:

The postholder will be responsible for the implementation of War Child UK’s DRL-funded consortium project in line with the project proposal. This includes but is not limited to child protection services, psychosocial support activities, youth apprenticeships, and government capacity building, supporting social cohesion and a range of activities for children in areas of Baghdad, Anbar, and Basra governorates. S/he will be responsible to regularly report weekly progress to the consortium, and prepare periodical reports, share the number of beneficiaries reached and actively engage in coordination mechanisms set up by the UN, and government. The postholder will prepare monthly and weekly implementation plans and ensure all field-based program staff have work plans in place and their progress monitored. Furthermore, the Project Officer will also represent War Child UK at various forums or as delegated by the Area Coordinator.

 

  1. Key Responsibilities

 

  • Regularly coordinate with admin, finance, and HR for effective implementation of the project activities as per the agreed work plan and objectives and outcomes of the project.
  • Coordinate with government stakeholders for effective implementation of the CP project activities, ensuring clear guidance and standards for all program staff are in compliance with all agreements and the project proposal.
  • Represent War Child UK in Baghdad, Anbar, Basra level meetings and actively participate in UN/Govt. general and cluster coordination meetings in project location.
  • To manage Team Leaders and Case Management Supervisors per community center, PSS Supervisor, and Livelihood Supervisor.
  • Develop work plan on weekly basis in the light of DIP for direct reports, and ensure effective monitoring of all activities assigned to each project site.
  • Promote children’s participation in programme activities, project design and accountability mechanisms.
  • Ensure that the project is implemented effectively maintaining high quality standards and ensuring consistency of the work in accordance with the program goal and objectives.
  • Develop, maintain, and improve mutual and beneficial relationships with key stakeholders and use it for advocacy and mobilising support for War Child UK initiatives (including government officials, community leaders, etc.) to ensure successful implementation of the project.
  • Prepare timely progress reports for the Area Coordinator in order to ensure the provision of accurate and updated information on progress and beneficiary data is properly updated in ITT.
  • Monitor and report security situation in War Child UK’s work locations to Area Coordinator.
  • Establish contact with current and potential partners, and pro-actively plan and carry out joint activities, such as project development, assessments, surveys, etc.
  • Collect and provide all required, relevant and important data regarding IDPs, Returnees and communities, and update the Country Office.
  • Ensure personal security and asset safety at all times as per War Child UK’s security guidelines, updates from other organisations and standing orders from the authorities and War Child UK’s Country Office. 
  • Ensure War Child UK’s visibility, profiling, and representation at all relevant forums.
  • Respect and adhere to War Child UK’s child safe guarding policy.
  • Carry out any other task assigned by the line manager.

Qualifications & Preferred Skills

Education and experience

  • Bachelors in social sciences or project management or related field
  • Experience of working on child protection projects is essential
  • Experience of working with IDPs, returnees, and other vulnerable communities
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience at project management
  • Working knowledge of English (written and verbal) is a must
  • Excellent writing skills in English and Arabic
