- Overview
1.1. Background
War Child UK (WCUK) works to support children in conflict and post-conflict affected areas who live with a combination of poverty, exclusion, and insecurity. These children might include IDP and refugee children, street children, child headed households, children associated with armed groups, and children in detention. Our mission is to support and strengthen the protective environment around all the children we serve. We look forward to a world in which the lives of children are no longer torn apart by war and/or conflict. This is a vision that can only be realized through the collective actions of children themselves, their caregivers, communities and their leaders, other NGOs, governments, and key decisionmakers.
1.2. Purpose of the Role:
The PSS Facilitator is a member of War Child UK’s (WCUK) Child Protection team. The PSS Facilitator will work under the supervision of PSS Supervisor, to whom they will report. War Child UK’s Protection Coordinator and Ed & CP Officer will provide ongoing capacity building support and guidance. The PSS Facilitator will provide daily IDEAL and recreational activities to children affected by conflict and trauma. The PSS Facilitator will implement safe and inclusive online structured PSS activities during the ongoing pandemic.
- Key Responsibilities
- Deliver War Child UK’s structured PSS methodologies to children of different age groups, including Little Fellow, I DEAL, and Win Win DEAL, as well as structured PSS methodology for parents and caregivers
- Ensure that programs are meeting the specific needs of children
- Carry out the outreach and registration process for each PSS cycle, and give inputs on best schedule for programs according to the specific needs/context of the site location
- Carry out pre and post-tests with participants
- Be responsible for keeping track of attendance sheets for each group
- Work closely with the case management and outreach teams to identify children to participate in PSS activities, according to the agreed criteria
- Participate in the development of lessons learned and best practices and contribute relevant information to project reports
- Observe the children during the activities
- Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the PSS Supervisor, Project Officer, or Area Coordinator
- Promote a safe work environment by following guidance and SoPs for operating during the pandemic
- Respect and adhere to War Child UK’s child safeguarding policy
- Adhere to War Child UK’s code of conduct

Qualifications & Preferred Skills
- Job and person specifications
4.1. Education and experience
- 2 years relevant experience in field work on the issues related to Child Protection or Education
- At least 1 year specific as Facilitator or Teacher or work experience with children
- Previous experience in a similar position with international or national organizations or government authorities
- Strong facilitation skills and ability to lead groups of children
- Fluent in written and spoken Arabic
- Knowledge of Child Protection standards and procedures
- Ability to discuss sensitive issues with children and parents/caregivers and provide guidance and support
