Responsibilities and Tasks: 

About the Documentation Program

 

The Documentation Program was launched in October 2015 to gather as much evidence as possible on the genocide committed against the Yazidis. Since then, the Documentation team has been collecting evidence in the form of witness and survivor interviews, in addition to visual material on mass graves and kill sites in and around Sinjar, Nineveh Province, where the genocide took place.

 

The Documentation Project aims to:

 

●      Document, consolidate, and archive existing survivor and witness testimonies on the genocide against Yazidis as well as the destruction of Yazidi cultural heritage sites in Sinjar prior to the genocide to inform future academic and public inquires;

●      Support cultural documentation by building a historical record on the Yazidi traditions, faith and daily life;

●      Support legal work to pursue criminal accountability for crimes against Yazidis before international and domestic courts;

●      Provide support and background information to further domestic and international advocacy efforts that work to improve the conditions of Yazidis.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Project Manager, Advocacy and Outreach Officer is expected to fulfil the following duties:

●      Support the Legal Advocacy department in implementing an advocacy and outreach strategy

●      Coordinate work with the Yazidi Survivors Network (YSN) and ensure link between Yazda team and the network

●      Organize workshops, meetings, training for the YSN including taking care of the logistics

●      Translate from Arabic or Sinjari-Kurmanji to English in meetings between YSN members and other survivors and partners

●      Implement outreach campaigns in the affected community by informing them about legal cases and giving them updates about legal investigations and cases.

●      Support implementation of media coverage of legal advocacy work

●      Monitors ISIS related information on English media outlets and shares relevant findings with the documentation team.

●      Any other assignment

Preferred skills and knowledge:

Qualifications

 

Education:

–        Ideally, degree in media and communication, international studies, international relations or any other relevant fields

–        Experience: Prior experience in a non-governmental organization or international organization is a must.

 

Skills and Abilities:

●      Knowledge of the political, economic, social and religious situation in Iraq and the Middle East;

●      Good knowledge about the stakeholders in Erbil and in Baghdad

●      Basic computer skills;

●      Strict adherence to confidentiality clause to ensure protection of all witnesses and survivors;

●      Able to prioritize work, multi-task and meet deadlines;

●      Strong interpersonal skills and flexibility, responsibility, integrity, team work, self-motivated, preparedness to work off-time;

●      Ability and willingness to work with people from different ethnic groups, religions and socio-economic backgrounds; and

●      Proficiency in Arabic and Sinjari-Kurmanji is a must. Good oral and written skills in English is mandatory.
