PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The Analyst will be responsible for advancing the mission of Center on Extremism, by researching and analyzing Islamist extremism, terrorism, and antisemitism. The Analyst will write reports and articles for public distribution, and analyses for internal use, and will participate in planning and carrying out agency responses to research findings. The Analyst will conduct presentations and trainings for law enforcement and other constituents.

Responsibilities:
Primary:
Research and analyze Islamist extremism, terrorism, and antisemitism, including foreign terrorist organizations

Gather information from a wide variety of primary and secondary sources, including traditional media, social media, third party research sources, and others

Help develop qualitative and quantitative analysis of subject area, potentially with the use of a range of technical tools

Draft and edit internal memoranda based on research findings for agency use

Create written reports and articles, and deliver verbal presentations and trainings, for external partners, law enforcement, outside constituents, and the public

Assist in planning and executing agency responses to research findings

Support regional offices and CSC departments on relevant subject matter by providing information, guidance, and other assistance

Collaborate with International Affairs on analysis and resources

Ensure that research materials and findings are properly archived for use by current and future ADL employees

Qualifications:
Skills:
Excellent research skills in primary and secondary sources

Demonstrated experience with social media monitoring tools and OSINT techniques

Ability and willingness to quickly learn new technologies and adapt to a changing research environment

Knowledge of written and/or spoken Arabic

Ability to switch between quantitative and qualitative analytic lenses

Established familiarity with issues related to Islamist extremism, terrorism and antisemitism

Ability to thrive in a demanding, fast-paced multi-tasking environment

Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in teams

Excellent analytical and writing skills

Ability to demonstrate good judgment under pressure

Work Experience:
Three or more years of experience in journalism, law enforcement, or academic research, or equivalent experience

Proven track record of deep research and analysis, with prior experience with OSINT techniques

Education:
Bachelor’s degree in International Politics, Political Science, Journalism, Public Policy or related field required; graduate degree preferred

Work Environment:
Office environment. Additional hours may be needed on occasion to keep up with heavy workload and attend special events.

Compensation:
This position is a Grade F2. This grade has a salary midrange of $68,700 – $86,100. This salary range is reflective of a position based in Washington, D.C.. Please note that salaries are commensurate with experience, and since ADL has a location-based compensation structure, there may be a different range for candidates in other locations.
