DCA is an International Non- governmental Organisation (INGO) that has worked in Iraq and KRI since 2017, implementing life-saving Humanitarian Activities through Mine Clearance, Risk Education, Psychosocial Support and Child Protection activities through local partner organization.

DCA is looking to Hire a Medic who is primary role is to provide immediate on-site Emergency Medical Care and Treatment to DCA Iraq Staff and assist in the training of national medics. The treatment will not be limited to clearance related incidents and will include treatment of Medical Cases. 

This position is required 75% travel to Ninawa Province, Iraq.

 

The main duties relating to this position are as follows:

  • The Medic will be responsible for all aspects of Medical Care, Health and Hygiene at the Operational Site he/she is deployed to.
  • 75% travel required to Ninawa Province, Iraq.
  • The Medic shall maintain accurate details of the work location and contact details for all relevant local medical facilities including Primary and Secondary Evacuation Routes to the Designated Casualty Evacuation Medical Facilities.
  • Ensure that the assigned medical equipment is complete and serviceable as described in the Medical Standard Operating Procedure and per the Daily Checklist.
  • Remain alert and available at all times during activities in the field.
  • Maintain a high level of collective hygiene at the work site, Medical Equipment and the Ambulance at all times.
  • Inspect/ensure the validity of medicine, drugs and equipment on a Daily basis as per Standard Operating Procedure and Daily Checklist.
  • In the event of an incident/accident requiring medical support the medic shall provide the necessary support to stabilise any patients until such time as Casualty Evacuation resources are available or deliver the casualty to the nearest suitable medical facility.
  • Conduct Casualty Evacuation Exercises at least once a week, when starting a new task site or when ordered to by any supervisor/management. 
  • Conduct a Daily Medical Briefing prior to any Operations starting and ensure that all staff deploying to the field are in possession of the required Individual First Aid Kit.
  • Conform to International Mine Action Standards and Standard Operating Procedure.
  • Conduct quarterly refresher/continuation medical training for all project staff.  

The post holder should be able to demonstrate the following attributes:

  • Fluency in spoken and written Basic English. (Will serve as translator when required)
  • Language skills: (Kurdish and Arabic)
  • At least Two(2)-years experience in Mine Action.
  • At least Two(2)-years experience as a Paramedic or Nurse speciallising in Trauma, preference would be Recent Previous Experience as a Military Medic, Intensive Care Trained Nurses and Emergency Department Nurses. Proof of qualifications are to be included in the application.
  • Excellent time-keeping and prioritization skills.
  • Organised and able to work under pressure.
  • Proven previous experience in presenting medical training.
